mwdaTokū è un'isola vulcanica disabitata situata nella divisione di mwdqVava'u dell'mwdgarcipelago delle mwdwTonga, nell'mweaOceano Pacifico.cite-ref-1[1]

Si trova nell'estremo nord del gruppo Vava'u e fa parte della mwfgzona di subduzione delle Kermadec-Tonga altamente attiva e del suo arco vulcanico associato, che si estende dalla mwfwNuova Zelanda alle Fiji.

L'isola è lunga circa 1000 m e larga 700 m, per un'area di 0,4 km².cite-ref-02-2-0[2] Si eleva fino a 8 m sul mwhqlivello del mare verso la costa orientale.

L'isola più vicina è mwhwFonualei 19,7 km a nord-ovest.

Il primo europeo ad avvistare l'isola fu mwigDon Francisco Mourelle de la Rua a bordo della fregata mwiwPrincesa nel 1781.cite-ref-3[3]

Tokū è stata abitata negli anni 1830 quando, a seguito di alcuni conflitti, vi si trasferirono gli abitanti del villaggio Ha’amea dell'isola mwkqTongatapu. Dopo l'eruzione del vulcano Fonualei del 1846 si trasferirono a 'Utulei, sull'isola di Pangaimotu, nel distretto di mwlaPangaimotu.cite-ref-02-2-1[2]

It has an area of 0.4 km2 and a total elevation of 16m (UNEP 1988) Wood (1932, p. 107) gives an area of 150 acres with a maximum elevation of 86 feet. The Pacific Islands Pilot (1956, p. 424) describes Toku as a small and low island. In the 1830s Toku had served as a refuge island for refugees from the village of Ha’amea on Tongatapu, who had left due to fighting. The people lived on Toku but had gardens on Fonualei. Following the eruptions discussed in this report, the people of Toku resettled to Utulei on Vava’u (Wood 1932, p. 74). In 1889-90 J.J. Lister travelled to some of the islands on HMS Egeira. According to Lister (1891, map) Toku was 82 high.»
